‘A difficult week at the bridge’
This the view of Chelsea frontman Drogba, speaking after his brace against title rivals Arsenal. Needless to say he was spot on with his analysis of the off field problems, but as for on the pitch it was business as usual. The scandal surrounding John Terry’s private life erupted further this weekend with a stream of new accusations left the media circus bubbling with fresh ammo to aim at the Chelsea captain.
On a day where the blues faced possibly one of the biggest matches of the season so far, it was decided that Vanessa Perroncel would release her story in a national newspaper. This leaving football pundits questioning Chelsea’s focus on the game ahead, implying that the scandal would give Arsenal the upper hand in the tie. All this following the huge decision to remove JT as England captain on Friday. Now you could forgive them for thinking this, as you could only expect these troubles have a mentally draining effect on not just JT but the club as a whole.

Sadly this London club must of had a wall up this week, as a routine solid performance left no gaps for Wengers men pick through and they came out on top with a highly organized, convincing 2-0 victory. Seemingly untouched by all the shots fired at him, Terry led the blues out to a display which can only be branded as heroic. Winning every header, reading every pass and inspiring the 10+ men who had stood firmly beside him all week into a performance of potential champions. Probably one of the hardest minded footballers in the modern game, had mass support from the thousands of blues fans that packed into the bridge, with banners up all around the ground. As if this man ever needed inspiration, he now had it in abundance and after grabbing the assist to the first goal, he ran back to his own half and for a moment stood still on his own before leaping for joy with an intense fist pump. This furthermore evidence that his head is very much in the game. JT capped off his topsy turvy day by rewarding one lucky blues fan with his shirt and another with his armband. His post match interview was an emotional one whereby he thanked all the Chelsea fans for their support. A true professional!

It would be easy to forget the impact of the continuing return of Didier Drogba among all the scandal, but the big Ivorian did what he does best and destroyed the Arsenal back-line with 1 predators instinct finish and a power drive into the box before slamming the ball past a static Manuel Alumunia. Drogba almost made his afternoon perfect when his thumping 30 yard free kick shook the frame of the Arsenal goal, but it was just to be the two as he took his record to 12 in 12 against Arsenal. Leaving the question, What can they ever do to stop him?
So at the end of a weekend of intense speculation JT again shows that football is all that matters on pitch and that the club as a whole are stronger than ever!
Punny title Hicks. I’d expect nothing less.
